Allergic rhinitis has an impact on productivity at work and at school

We have recently highlighted how allergic rhinitis affects patients sleep, but what affect does this have on work productivity and school performance?

As you can imagine, it can have a lasting impact. In fact, as a result of ‘serious’ hay fever symptoms, sufferers reported 4 days off work per year and a noticeable impact on productivity in 38 days per year.¹

For those at school suffering with allergic rhinitis it can have a more serious impact on their future careers. In a study on children taking their GCSE exams, GCSE students with hay fever symptoms are 40% more likely to drop a grade than those without, and are also 70% more likely to drop a grade if they reported taking sedating antihistamines at the time of their examinations.²

Allergic rhinitis is not a trivial disease, and each patient should be treated as appropriate for their symptoms.

We have shown the allergic rhinitis is an underestimated and undertreated condition, that patients can have allergic rhinitis treatments all year round, and looked at how it can impact patients sleep, and in tum have an effect on their work productivity and school grades
